Migrant Workers

Promoting migration with dignity

There are 169 million migrant workers in the world – meaning one in twenty of all workers is a migrant worker. In our global economy little is produced or undertaken without the involvement of a migrant worker somewhere.

Migrant workforces can face a range of challenges to their rights, including discrimination in law and exploitation by  employers. They may be subject to unfair working conditions and harmful recruitment practices. Even when business seek to uphold the rights of migrant workers, governments may not fulfil their duty to protect them and ensure their obligations under international human rights standards.

Our approach

IHRB's Migrant Workers Programme seeks to ensure that migrant workers everywhere are treated with dignity and respect. To fulfil this vision we leverage responsible business to promote the rights of migrant workers in all sectors and all locations.

Dhaka Principles for Migration with Dignity

IHRB's Dhaka Principles for Migration with Dignity are a set of human rights based principles to enhance respect for the rights of migrant workers from the moment of recruitment, during employment, and through to safe return.
