How should companies respond to snap military drafts?
25 April 2024
When a state announces snap military conscription, how might companies respond to protect its employees?
In February this year, the military in Myanmar suddenly announced that they were going to put a dormant conscription law into immediate effect, which saw a rush to the country’s exits. Similarly, in 2022, hundreds of thousands of people fled Russia in response to conscription notices by the state.
In this episode, IHRB’s Salil Tripathi and Vicky Bowman, Director of the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business and IHRB colleague, explore the delicate balance companies must strike between compliance and resistance, and the creative strategies employed to protect their workforce. Salil is also joined by Nabi Abdullaev from Control Risks, a risk management consultant covering Russia.
