“Business needs to be driving the green transition’
South Africa’s green transition is facing a critical moment - it is now three years since the country secured the world’s first 'Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP)' agreement.
What is a JETP and why is it so important to the just transition agenda? And what can we learn from South Africa’s JETP progress?
IHRB’s Haley St Dennis talks to Yuri Ramkissoon, a climate and research analyst at South Africa’s Presidential Climate Commission, who is deeply involved in South Africa’s JETP.
Their conversation unpacks the JETP and explores how this form of climate finance is supporting a just and equitable transition to a low-carbon economy. They discuss the role of South Africa’s Presidential Climate Commission, as well as the essential involvement of businesses in driving innovation and funding for the transition. They also consider what South Africa’s experience might mean for other countries with JETP agreements.
