Leadership Group at Innovation Forum on Tackling Modern Slavery and Forced Labour

On 17th October 2016 The Coca-Cola Company's Brent Wilton and IHRB's Motoko Aizawa, both members of the Leadership Group for Responsible Recruitment, joined a panel at the Innovation Forum on how business can tackle modern slavery and forced labour. Rachel Micah Jones from Centro de los Derechos del Migrante and Laura Swat Rundlett from the US Department of State also participated in the panel.

The session outlined scenarios that can lead to recruitment exploitation and forced labor, and discussed the actions that leading businesses have taken to stamp it out, including:

  • How companies can identify forced labor in their supply chains
  • The role of recruitment fees in triggering forced labor
  • What policies and practices companies need to implement to stop exploitation through recruitment
  • What actions the leading vanguard of have companies taken
  • What current business models encourage modern slavery, and how they will need to change to order to promote fair treatment of workers
