Leadership Group at the Global Forum for Migration and Development

IKEA's Greg Priest, the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Lara White, and IHRB's Neill Wilkins - all members of the Leadership Group - this week attended the ninth Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD). The GFMD is a United Nations Initiative to explore and address the challenges and opportunities relating to migration and its impacts on development. Hosted  this year in Dhaka, Bangladesh the event was attended by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wazed who has previously expressed her government’s desire to see an end to recruitment fees being charged to workers.

The members of the Leadership Group were able to explain the work of the Leadership Group to delegates from both civil society and government and promote the Employer Pays Principle. Whilst in Dhaka, meetings were also held with the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) and the migration team from major International development organisation BRAC.
