Reception for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Sport, Modern Slavery and Human Rights
A reception is being organised at 6pm on 8th July in the UK Parliament to celebrate the first year of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Sport, Modern Slavery and Human Rights. The APPG is co-organised by UN Global Compact Network UK & Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB).
The reception will see the launch of the APPG's first interim report, which provides a summary of the issues discussed to date, as well as initial recommendations. Topics featured in the report are:
- the rights of workers in the construction of mega-sporting events
- due diligence in sports supply chains
- responsibilities of local organising committees
- broadcasting and the media
- gender and racial discrimination in sport.
IHRB's CEO John Morrison will be joined by Mary Harvey, former US National Women’s Soccer Team goalkeeper and CEO of the newly established Centre for Sport and Human Rights, who will be making brief remarks alongside parliamentarians from the APPG.
