SEAFAIRER Roundtable

To mark the fourth year of the Delivering on Seafarers’ Rights - Code of ConductIHRBSSIRightShip, Mission to Seafarers, and Rafto are co-hosting their annual roundtable event in Singapore on Tuesday 8th October 2024.

The invitation-only Chatham House Rule roundtable will bring together shipping stakeholders, from shipowners and charterers to seafarers and seafarers’ rights organisations, as well as shipyard owners and users, to focus on the most pressing worker welfare challenges, hear directly from seafarers, and discuss developments in the Code of Conduct implementation and the journey towards verification.

A detailed agenda and further information will follow, but the aim of the "SEAFAIRER" roundtable is to provide:

  • an opportunity for dialogue between seafarers, shipping companies, and cargo owners to address the most salient issues of seafarer welfare, including recruitment fees, shore leave and abandonment;
  • developments towards verification, and greater accountability and transparency;
  • clarity on specific welfare issues faced by shipyard workers.

Speakers will include senior representatives of all shipping stakeholders.

The roundtable includes breakfast and lunch, and will be followed by an optional afternoon visit (details TBC), and an evening reception hosted by the Norwegian Ambassador.

If you are interested in attending please contact Francesca Fairbairn.

“As endless as the ocean is the hope of a seafarer for his own dreams and for a better life for his family waiting at home. After a tiring day, a seafarer's comfort is in the hopes that someday, all his sacrifices will bring sunshine for his loved ones - our motivation why we have unending hope."
