Seeing the mine site from the trading desk
Mineral commodities have a complex supply chain from the mine to the ultimate buyer. The role of commodity traders - and the transportation of commodities - are often missed from discussions about human rights due diligence.
Join IHRB and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) at the OECD Forum for a panel session exploring the challenges and responsibilities of conducting human rights due diligence in the commodity trading sector.
The session will focus on how human rights impacts in mines can and should be included in human rights due diligence of commodity traders; what legislation is relevant; and what guidance is available.
The panel includes Bishop Lembelembe, a Congolese minister from South Kivu province who has been working to build relations between mining companies and local communities, and has been a passionate human rights defender in DRC for over thirty years.
To attend, please register via the OECD website by Wednesday 15 May.
Time: 12.45pm (CET)
Address: 2 Rue André Pascal, 75016 Paris, France, Room CC16
Lunch will be provided.
