Seminar: Shipping and Human Rights – From principles to practice

Are you attending One Ocean Week happening in Bergen, Norway, next week (15 - 21st of April)?

Join our seminar (Wednesday 19 April) to take a closer look at human rights in shipping.

Shipping is the backbone of the global economy. Between 80% and 90% of the world’s trade is transported by sea.

Human rights issues arise across the entire lifecycle of a ship – from design, finance and ordering, through building and operation, to breaking/recycling ships.

In this seminar, to be held in-person in Bergen, IHRB’s Francesca Fairbairn, Oceans and Commodities Programme Manager, will join a panel to discuss in practice how to embed human rights in shipping, from the shipyard to the scrapyard. IHRB's Senior Advisor Frances House will be introducing the Ocean and Human Rights Platform.

Location

The event will be held in person in Ocean City Bergen during One Ocean Week, on the ship Vision of the Fjords, located at Bryggen in Bergen, Norway, at 11am-11.50am local time. Drinks and food will be served.

Organisers

The event is hosted by the Ocean and Human Rights Platform, an initiative of the Rafto Foundation and the Institute for Human Rights and Business, and co-hosted by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, Maritime Bergen and Bergen Shipowners’ Association.
