A sociologist by training, Dr Rakesh Ranjan has more than a decade of experience working on international labour migration, immigrant entrepreneurship, immigrant philanthropy, diaspora organisation, gulf migration, remittance process and other inter-related issues.
Current Work
As South Asia Regional Coordinator, Dr Ranjan is a point of contact for the IHRB's Migrant Workers programme in the South Asia region, particularly in supporting and promoting the work of the Leadership Group for Responsible Recruitment (LGRR) in Bangladesh, India and Nepal, and other locations in South Asia.
Before IHRB
Dr Ranjan has vast experience working with government agencies, non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations and academic institutions. He possesses extensive fieldwork experience in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia.
Before joining IHRB, Dr Ranjan worked as an Assistant Professor with the Centre for Development Practice and Research, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, an institution of national repute in India. He has also been associated with the Institute for Human Rights and Business as a South Asia Regional Hub consultant for the IHRB Migrant Workers' Programme. Dr Ranjan is a Visiting Senior Fellow of the International Institute of Migration and Development and Global Research Forum on Diaspora and Transnationalism.
With a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, Dr. Rakesh has received professional training from prestigious institutions like the European University Institute, National University of Singapore, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, ITC-ILO, Centre for Development Studies, and others. Rakesh has recently co-authored a book, "Indian Diaspora Homeland Engagement: Education and Healthcare Sector", published by Oxford University Press.
