Ramanie Kunanayagam

Former Global Head for Social Performance and Human Rights, BG Group/Royal Dutch Shell


Ramanie is a social anthropologist with 30 years of experience managing social, socio-economic, environmental and human rights risks in emerging and developed economies.

She has cross-cutting private, public and non-profit sectors experience, holding leadership positions in Sustainability in the public and private sector, (working for two FTSE 10 companies) as well as the non-profit sector. She is currently a member of the World Bank Inspection Panel, reporting directly to the World Bank Board of Executive Directors.

Previously Ramanie was the Global Head for Social Performance and Human Rights for BG Group/Royal Dutch Shell.  She is currently a member of the Board of an international non-profit development organisation - RESOLVE.  In addition, Ramanie is a Fellow at the University of Queensland, Australia and an Executive Session member at Columbia University’s  Centre for Sustainable Investment,

Ramanie spent over ten years doing fieldwork in a remote part of East Kalimantan Indonesia. She has worked across the entire project cycle and successfully created and led international teams in sustainable development, covering over 30 countries on 5 continents.

She earned a Masters in Anthropology from Monash University, Australia.
