UN Must Lead by Setting Expectations and Aspirations

In June 2011, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for business and human rights (SRSG) will present to the Council for its consideration, Guiding Principles for the operationalization of the UN “Protect, Respect and Remedy” framework.
In recent days, the SRSG has convened a round of consultations with business, states, and civil society organizations, to discuss the forthcoming Guiding Principles.
The business consultation took place in Paris on October 5, the consultation with states in Geneva on October 6, and the civil society consultation in Geneva on October 11-12. On October 7, the SRSG also met with National Human Rights Institutions at their meeting in Edinburgh.
Former Secretary General of Amnesty International and current Board member of IHRB, Irene Khan, delivered a keynote address at the civil society consultations in Geneva on 11 October 2010.
